Feelings of Love

By Carole Reid

“A cashier leaned forward and asked me “Are you having chemo treatments?” I was a little surprised that she would ask but then she went on to tell me she’d had breast cancer a few years ago. She wanted to know how I was dealing with the treatments. Being fairly open about having had breast cancer I replied “Yes, I had one treatment” Her very loud reply was “Oh you have to keep having your treatments or you’ll die!” Everyone in the lineup behind me heard her. I was shocked and embarrassed and my feelings had been hurt. Rather than lashing out at her rudeness and thoughtless words I left. Once in my studio to deal with my hurt feelings and dismay. I chose to create art that expressed positive feelings of love and support. Here are two of the five.”
