Making Peace with Darkness

“Many times while enduring breast cancer and discovering I have a BRCA1 mutation, I have felt like a Frankenstein lady. She has stitches from the chemo port and mastectomy incisions, and I included stitches along the hairline to represent hair loss during chemo. However she is still beautiful and feminine as she rides through the night sky on a broomstick in pin up style. Bats represent transformation and major life changes. The full moon represents feminine energy and a time to celebrate your growth. It was important for me to express my feelings in this piece while at the same time showing myself that I may not be the same after having a cancer diagnosis but I am still whole and beautiful and woman.”
