Lift Your Eyes

By Laura Dampney (UK)

“I was diagnosed with breast cancer in October 2018, aged 36. My faith in God played a huge part in helping me to get through the shock of the diagnosis, and the trauma of surgery and chemotherapy. Knowing my life is in God’s good hands has given me a peace that nothing else could. At times I still feel overwhelmed with fear that the cancer will return and I won’t see my children grow up – this picture reminds me to keep looking up. On a lighter note, I wore a pink wig when I lost my hair – I knew I’d be self conscious whatever I put on my head, so I thought I may as well squeeze some fun out of a horrible situation, particularly for my children, who were 3 and 6 at the time. The pink hair in this picture reminds me of what I’m capable of, and that it’s possible to find some joy in dark times.”
