Scars Are Golden

By Mary Kamerer (North Carolina, USA)

“I’m a self-taught oil painter. This 48” x 96” diptych is called “Scars are Golden”. It reflects the ancient Japanese concept of “kintsugi”, in which broken pieces of pottery are repaired using precious metals. In doing so, scars are not hidden or disguised, but are accentuated and enhance the piece. As a breast cancer survivor, I am trying to embrace this idea, and accept my scars as enhancements to my life’s journey. You can see more of my art at www.marykamerer.com
