“I composed this painting eight months after my double mastectomy, right before my bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy surgery. My final diagnosis was Stage 0 – DCIS, ER+, in November 2018.
I had feelings of loss and anger, and I needed to express them on canvas.
Before my career as an artist, I worked in a laboratory as a registered Cytotechnologist – I screened samples for cancer and infections. This painting contains negative space, splatter, and carcinoma cellular details that represent my breast biopsy.”
