Flat 2: Breastfeeding

by Alina Ko (Miami, USA)

Alina Ko is an artist and breast cancer survivor who uses her experiences and those of people she knows to inspire her art about breast cancer.

Flat 2: Breastfeeding  is painted on a 24 by 36” canvas, acrylic paint on stretched canvas. It depicts the story of a woman who has, for several years, hungered for a baby. After a round of chemotherapy to treat invasive breast cancer, she discovers that she’s pregnant and opts for a mastectomy instead, giving birth to a daughter. (note–hair on head, eyebrows and eyes lashes did not grow back to symbolize the chemotherapy and radiation she must shortly undergo). “
