Alina Ko is an artist and breast cancer survivor who uses her experiences and those of people she knows to inspire her art about breast cancer.
“Flat 2: Breastfeeding is painted on a 24 by 36” canvas, acrylic paint on stretched canvas. It depicts the story of a woman who has, for several years, hungered for a baby. After a round of chemotherapy to treat invasive breast cancer, she discovers that she’s pregnant and opts for a mastectomy instead, giving birth to a daughter. (note–hair on head, eyebrows and eyes lashes did not grow back to symbolize the chemotherapy and radiation she must shortly undergo). “
