Poppies

by Karen Williams

“This is a huge painting I did shortly after I finished active treatment. I wanted to prove to myself that although cancer has taken my breasts it hadn’t robbed me of my art. I painted poppies as a sign of hope for the future, choosing traditional red poppies and white poppies – red for the love of my family which helped me through all my treatments, and white for the peace I feel with myself. The background is pink to celebrate all the support I got from my one-to-one lady … I had a series of phone calls from this wonderful lady from Breast Cancer Care supporting me through out my various treatments. Breast Cancer Care have a very good volunteer network who will phone or email anyone who is going through breast cancer.”
