“My name is Laura Huertas from Santa Fe, New Mexico. The piece is stoneware clay. I fired it in a Raku kiln with a clear crackle glaze. After the piece is removed from the kiln with tongs at 1900 degrees it’s placed in an aluminium can full of newspaper. The newspaper catches fire, creating a lot of smoke, you put the lid on as it’s smoking. The dark cracks you see is smoke filling in cracked glaze. I used a tool for the stitching. This series exemplifies resilience.”
