Surgery, Chemo and Rads

Surgery, Chemo and Rads

by Edwina Maria Thompson

‘Cut, poisoned and burned.’
A term,
Grudgingly learned.
As treatment I know,
Of cancer may go,
With
Cut, poisoned and burned.

Cut, poisoned and burned.
Our minds,
Frantically churned.
No advert will show,
The truth of this foe.
We’re
Cut, poisoned and burned.

Cut, poisoned and burned.
The lump,
Surgeon has spurned.
My breast now hollow,
A scar to follow.
I’m
Cut, poisoned and burned.

Cut, poisoned and burned.
Respect,
This I have earned!
Shot up with chemo,
Then body aglow.
All
Cut, poisoned and burned.

Cut, poisoned and burned.
Survived,
Body returned!
My hair I forego,
But back it will grow
From
Cut, poisoned and burned.

Cut, poisoned and burned.
Relief,
I am adjourned.
But prayers I bestow ,
To those in the flow
Of
Cut, poisoned and burned.
